日本は国連安保理常任理事国の地位を追求すべきか

Should Japan seek permanent status in the UN Security Council [or UNSC]?

Depending on what we are, the answers may well vary, and they all make sense, but in my view, it is not a good idea for Japan to seek permanent status on the UN Security Council, or UNSC. Now let me explain the details.

First and foremost, this idea goes against Japan’s pacifist policy as stated in the constitution. It is because the UN was set up as a military alliance, and still performs military missions, including peacekeeping operations. So, if Japan were to achieve permanent seat in the UNSC, it must provide military assistance. Nevertheless, this does not align with the opinions of the citizens.

Next, I understand some may argue that Japan should play greater role in promoting world peace. However, Japan should avoid getting involved in any international conflicts. It is because such involvement may frighten away many foreign investors, leading to Japan’s further decline.

Therefore, I don’t believe Japan should have a permanent seat on the UNSC. Whether or not it has a permanent seat, Japan will contribute to the international community in an honorable manner. Thank you for your attention. [185 Words Type-X]
